Engineer in Charge of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges inventories, report, and memorandums for 1887 to 1917


Description

The accession consists of inventories, plans, reports, correspondence, memoranda, and printed material. The Engineer in Charge of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges was responsible for maintenance and repair of the bridges. The majority of the material consists of inventories of supplies and equipment used to maintain or repair on bridges and related facilities by the carpentry, machine, painting, and other shops. It was used to prepare for audits, 1914-1917. Most remaining material is interdepartmental and circular sent to staff by the Engineer in Charge pertaining to operational and personnel matters. Some memoranda are marked "Drafting Room." Printed material includes a catalog for engineering books and blank purchase orders. The material was transferred to the Municipal Archives along with the main body of Brooklyn Bridge drawings and related materials, circa 1980. It is also related to Accession 1999-014.
