Board of Estimate minutes and proceedings for 1911 to 1962

Accession ACC-2010-022. Unprocessed - RG 014. New York City Council

Description

The Board of Estimate was the City's chief financial and decision making body. This accession consists of bound, published volumes. The Minutes and Proceedings document the Board's review and approval of project expenditure (items) organized for review (calendared) at set meeting dates. Approximately half are Minutes and half are Proceedings. There are a small number of other Board journals, such as the Chief Engineer's Report and Minutes of Commissioners of the Sinking Fund. There are also some agencies whose work is connected to the Board of Estimate, such as the City Planning Commission. Approximately half the material has broken bindings. The paper in volumes prior to 1940 is heavily acidic and fragile. The materials are duplicates, which should be retained as long as it takes to assess and collate other duplicate sets to preserve one or two of the best sets. The material is arranged chronologically.
