City Court of New York and Marine Court debt and business case files for 1860 to 1907

Description

The City Court of New York (prior to 1883 called Marine Court) was a statutory court of limited civil and maritime jurisdiction within New York County. This accession consists of legal documents, namely case filings. The cases are primarily concerned with debt and business matters. The documents are tri-folded but in good condition. These unprocessed records have a box-level inventory by month and year. The records had been transferred from the New York State Court system via Queens College's Historic Documents Collection to the American Jewish Historical Society Library in 1964. The American Jewish Historical Society catalog records indicate that the material was randomly selected from the larger body.
