Description
This accession consists of correspondence, memoranda, circular orders, and lists. Correspondence is both incoming and outgoing. It is primarily with Army and Navy officials based in New York and Washington, D.C., including Provost Marshals and the Adjutant General. It concerns one of the Committee's principal duties, the administration of the Civil War draft and voluntary recruitment in New York City, including matters of reenlistment and substitutes, and paying bounties and premiums for the same, and irregularities in the process. Both general matters and instances involving individual soldiers, including their fitness for duty, were under consideration. Arranged chronologically.
