A civil service commission was established by New York State for New York City in 1884, first known as the New York (City) Civil Service Commission, later the Municipal Civil Service Commission after consolidation. Rules and regulations were initially established. This accession consists of a bound scrapbook. The volume documents changes and amendments to these initial rules and regulations of 1884. The changes are indicated in printed and typescript clippings referencing the original sections of the rules. Included are approvals by the Mayor and the New York State Civil Service Commission.
