This accession consists of a brick from the original McCarren Park Pool presented as a commemorative token on the opening day of the new pool, July 28, 2012. The long anticipated return of the McCarren Park Pool - which opened in 1936, closed in 1983, and hosted summer concerts between 2005 and 2008 – was part of PlaNYC. Released in 2007, PlaNYC was an unprecedented effort undertaken by Mayor Bloomberg to prepare the city for one million more residents, strengthen the economy, combat climate change, and enhance the quality of life for all New Yorkers. The item measures 2.5 x 4 x 8 inches. No arrangement.
