1939 New York World's Fair photographs

Description

This accession consists of 16 black and white photographs. The photographs were taken at the 1939 New York World Fair by Marion Mildred Townsend from Kingsville, Ontario, Canada (the donor's great-aunt). The photographs measure 3 x 4.5 inches and have personal inscriptions on the back. The captions include Aquacade; Entrance Statue; Coney Island long dock, fairground rides; Coney Island beach activity; Queen Mary 1, docked; Queen Mary 2, docked; Courts of States; Lagoon of Nations; Fairground goers on walkway; Mountie in front of Canadian pavilion; Royal Train 1; Royal Train 2; British Pavilion; Italian Building; Russian Building; and 44th Street, James Theatre. Also included is a 1939 stamp with a double cross (coat of arms of Slovakia), possibly collected as a souvenir.
