City Planning land use maps circa 1934 to 1938
Description
These records consist of oversize land use maps created by the Mayor's Committee on City Planning working in concert with the Works Progress Administration (WPA), as well as subsequent maps created by the then-nascent City Planning Commission. The majority of the maps were created to highlight findings from these entities with regard to future projects. The maps depict various areas of all five boroughs and show information gathered on real property, industry, population, transportation, occupation, etc. It is unclear if the extant maps make up the entirety of those produced.
Extent
20 cubic feet (38 items) : mounted on particle board or wood with metal corner-caps, and weighing approximately 20-30 pounds each ; these maps range in size, often exceeding 4' in height.
