Donald Deskey Associates Central Park Children's Zoo design proposals
Description
This accession consists of 11 drawings created by Donald Deskey Associates. They include design proposals for concession stands, a cafeteria, and emblems or logos. The items are hand-drawn and colored, and mounted on boards measuring 14" x 20". There is a strong possibility that these drawings were proposals for the Central Park Children's Zoo, which opened in 1961, but it appears they were rejected. All but one of the drawings are numbered, with items 1-4, 9, 11, and 15 missing. These drawings display unrealized designs for a project related to the Department of Parks, most likely that of the Central Park Children's Zoo. Donald Deskey and his firm, Donald Deskey Associates, were prominent 20th century graphic designers, with direct ties to New York City. Much like the similar unfulfilled Central Park drawings, these designs present a possible view of a New York City institution.
