Department of Cultural Affairs administrative and subject files from various commissioners and agency counsel for 1972 to 2009

Description

This accession consists of administrative files and subject files from various Department of Cultural Affairs commissioners, various top level staff (such as Deputy Commissioners), and the agency's counsel. The records were created and used between 1972-2009. The Counsel's files mostly concern an ongoing redevelopment project at City Center, as well as some subject files on various topics related to other properties and legal matters. The Commissioner's administrative files are reference files, correspondence, and other related materials that facilitated the day-to-day activities of the department. Many of the administrative files concern collaborations with other departments as well as the department's collaborations with and outreach to cultural organizations/institutions within the city. There are also materials from events and programs where they were invited or collaborated. A sizable portion of the records are either correspondence or documents concerning construction projects, building renovations, and infrastructure for the Department's projects and for New York City cultural organizations/institutions.
