Engine Company Number 3 firehouse blotters, 1879-1891


Description

The accession consists of two volumes of blotters for Engine Company Number 3, mostly covering the periods January 1, 1879-December 31, 1879, and November 1, 1887-December 31, 1889. One page at the end of the later volume has information on alarms responded to from January 1, 1890 to January 1891. The blotters record the daily activities, schedule, and roster of the firehouse, its company firemen, and other workers. Information recorded includes personal names, titles, times, and brief entries on the day's occurrences, such as fires responded to, maintenance work, reporting and departure times, and days off. The firehouse may have been located in Brooklyn as evidenced by locations of fires referenced in the daily entries.
