New York Fire Department Roll Call and Activities Ledgers, 1879-1906

Description

These volumes detail the day-to-day activities of late nineteenth and early-twentieth century New York City fire fighters from Engine Companies 25 and 20. These volumes include details of operations when reporting to fires and roll call for the company. These accounts of fires include information such as where the fire was, how it started, how many hydrants were used, how many men were present, and noted absences. The two older ledgers have these details entirely handwritten while the latest one is a printed form that is then filled out by hand. The latest volume contains charts in the front of the volume listing when they reported to a fire, what stations they used, the number of times the fire engine rolled, the number of times the company was at work, the estimated gallons of water consumed, how long it took the fire out, and what page that entry can be found on.
