Immediate Source of Acquisition
The collection was transferred from the New York City Department of Transportation to the Municipal Archives in November 1996 (ACC-1996-022).
Processing Information
Prior to 2016, the drawings were treated and encapsulated by conservation staff. Processing of the collection was completed by staff archivist Alexandra Hilton in January 2016.
Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of a volume entitled, Drawings of Maps, Bridges, Profiles, Coal Burning Locomotives, Chairs, Brakes, Splices, and etc., accompanying the Report of the Board of Railroad Commissioners for 1856. The volumes consists of 65 plates (most gate-folded) of maps of the State and City of New York showing routes of railroads and drawings of truss, suspension, trestle and draw bridges. Additional subjects include the Long Island Rail Road, New York Central Railroad and other railroad locomotives, sections of rail, railroad tunnels and railroad line profile maps.
