Abstract: The Fire Department of New York photographs span the years 1900 to 1969, with the bulk of the images dating from 1917 and 1929-1931 respectively. The collection, composed of a combination of glass plate negatives and black and white negatives, depicts various Fire Department goings-on including but not limited to: firefighting, fire aftermath, New York aerial views, demonstrations and trainings, Fire Department vehicles, Fire Department houses, and firefighters themselves.

Abstract: The New York Police Department (NYPD) Aviation Unit photographs and index includes 3,638 negatives dating from circa 1935 to 1982 and a partial index of the images dating from 1971 to 1982. There are also five notes from within the NYPD pertaining to the reproduction of negatives.
