World Trade Center site metal plane pieces salvaged from the Fresh Kills landfill in 2001
Description
The Community Assistance Unit arranged a visit to the Fresh Kills landfill, Staten Island, New York for the Archives staff in July 2002. The staff examined artifacts transported to Fresh Kills after the World Trade Center (WTC) attack on September 11, 2001. Two small pieces of metal from one of the planes that struck the WTC towers were selected. They are marked: FBI 265A-NY 280350, FBI #265A - NY 240350. Both are signed: R. Marx, FBI, 7/10/2002.
