World Trade Center site firemen's Scott Pack (backpack) salvaged from the Fresh Kills landfill in 2001


Description

The Community Assistance Unit arranged a visit to the Fresh Kills landfill, Staten Island, New York for the Archives staff in July 2002. The staff examined artifacts transported to Fresh Kills after the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001. One item selected was a piece of fire-fighting equipment known as a Scott Pack. It is the equipment firemen wear strapped on their back while fighting fires. The Scott Pack has a New York City Police ID tag attached and written on it is: Scott ID 7850174C.
