Correspondence sent to World Trade Center recovery workers for 2001

Description

The accession contains greeting cards, letters, some attached artwork, and printed material sent after the World Trade Center attack to the search and rescue workers, including search dogs, police and firemen, working at Ground Zero to offer encouragement and support for their efforts. A majority of the letters were from adults addressed to a New York City post office box setup to receive the letters. Letters containing contributions were specifically marked. Some letters were forwarded to Community Assistance Unit from other entities involved in the recovery. Included also are letters sent by individuals and school children from many different countries. The primary arrangement is alphabetical by surname. There is one box of anonymous letters and three boxes of material from school children arranged alphabetically by school name. See related material in accession 2006-057.
