Family Assistance Center toys for children circa 1999 to 2002

Description

The accession consists of toys and toy packages, stuffed animals, caps, coloring books, buttons, birthday candles, child oriented activity sets, and other items. The material came from the second Family Assistance Center location at 49-51 Chambers Street, set up to aid families of victims of the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attack, but was likely also used at the first location at Pier 94. The accession includes material from the Giuliani Administration to the Bloomberg Administration. The items were all likely utilized by Community Assistance Unit (CAU) staff for children's play areas and parties and some probably given as gifts to the children. Some of the child oriented activity sets were created or provided by CAU or other city agencies, such as the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and the New York Police Department.
