Scope and Contents
This series contains material from William O’Dwyer’s mayoral campaigns. He ran for Mayor three times. The first, in 1941, he lost to Fiorello H. La Guardia. In 1945, he ran again with the support of Tammany Hall leader Edward V. Loughlin, and won. His successful 1949 reelection campaign ticket included City Council President Vincent R. Impellitteri, who would succeed O’Dwyer in office after his resignation. Material includes correspondence, press releases, speeches, and printed material.
