Scope and Contents
This series contains the full transcript of the trial and conviction of Norman Butler, Thomas Hagan, and Thomas Johnson for the murder of Malcolm X. The trial opened on January 12, 1966 and ended on April 14, 1966. There are six bound typescript volumes, the last of which contains photographs of some of the physical evidence recovered at the crime scene, the scene shortly after the murder, and the apprehension of defendant Hagan. Volume 6 also contains photographs of men practicing karate and police photographs of defendants Butler and Johnson. The appendix contains some of both the peoples' and the defendant's exhibits, including the handwritten hospital records of witness Cary Thomas and defendants Butler and Hagan.
