High school yearbooks, 1929-1995
Scope and Contents
This series consists of high school yearbooks acquired at various times, from the Board of Education central headquarters offices, from individual schools, or from former students and members of the public.
The core of a high school yearbook is the listing, with photographs, of the senior class or graduates. In addition to the listing of graduates, the yearbooks generally have material on student activities and school faculty, as well as student literary and artistic contributions.
In some periods, high schools had both a January and a June graduation, and this is reflected in the yearbook dates. The yearbooks have been divided into two time periods: 1900-1970 and 1970-2001. This parallels the division of most series in the Board of Education records at the point of the decentralization of administration in 1970.
