United States Conference of Mayors (USCM), 1933-1945

Scope and Contents

Mayors of major cities throughout the United States hold a national conference each year to discuss mutual problems and their potential solutions on a cooperative basis. They plan consensus ventures, prepare draft legislative measures, and support individual metropolitan programs that accurately identify and solve the needs and concerns of the nation’s large metropolitan areas. Fiorello La Guardia was president of the Conference for ten years beginning in 1936. In 1934 and 1941, New York City hosted the United States Conference of Mayors with Fiorello La Guardia serving as the spokesman for these sessions. This series consists of correspondence from the mayors, speeches, and reports for the years 1934-1945.
