Invitations, 1933-1945

Scope and Contents

During Fiorello La Guardia’s years as Mayor (1934-1945), he was invited to an enormous number of civic and personal functions. Oftentimes the invitations conflicted with other engagements. Sometimes the occasion was inappropriate for mayoral attendance, and, increasingly over the years, the mayor’s calendar allowed little time for such invitations. This series contains invitations to events the Mayor declined attendance to, along with the mayor’s letter of response if one is available.
