Photographs I, 1970-1978
Scope and Contents
The Photographs I series contains 258 photographic prints and negatives that were separated from other series in the collection during processing. The photographs are in both black and white and color and were taken during Robert Abrams tenure as Borough President. Each image has an individual catalog number. Some photographic prints have matching negatives. Subjects depicted in the photographs include events, conventions, businesses, politicians, celebrities, New York Yankees ballplayers, Yankee Stadium, Penn Central railroad tracks and bridges, intersections in the Bronx, and the New York City subway system. Included also are photos of Robert Abrams, Herman Badillo, Carol Bellamy, Shirley Chisholm, Mario Cuomo, Ed Koch, John Lindsay, George McGovern, Walter Mondale, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Israel Rubin, Albert Shanker, and Ramon S. Valez. There is one photograph of the actor John Wayne. Images of Penn Central railroad tracks and bridges and the New York City subway system document conditions and safety issues. The New York Yankees photographs are related to special events at Yankee Stadium and, in particular, the fact that the Mayor of New York, John Lindsay, signed a renewal lease for Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
