Scope and Contents
The correspondence, memoranda, notes, reports, clippings and printed material in this subseries were used by the Mayor’s Office of African American and Caribbean Affairs’ Director Joseph Placide and Deputy Director Donovan Gopie to document their involvement in the activities and issues of the communities and for administrative purposes. Before the establishment of this office, Special Adviser to the Mayor James H. Harding, working with the Office of Minority Affairs, had similar responsibilities in the Koch and early Dinkins administrations. Subjects include achievements, Caribbean EXPO, Harlem Week and the West Indian Day Carnival.
