Microfilm of the New York City geographic birth index, 1880-1917

Scope and Contents

Consists of a microfilm copy of a handwritten card index of births in the City of New York. It is organized by the geographical location (first by borough, then date of birth, then street and street number) of where the child lived at the time of birth. There are also four reels of indexes of births at hospitals or other institutions. Information recorded in the geographical birth index includes: street name, building number, last and first name of child (sometimes middle name initial), date of birth, and birth certificate number.
